Boston Business Journal
The state attorney general and the Department of Public Health will hold six public hearings across the state evaluating the proposed acquisition of Caritas Christi Health Care by Cerberus Capital Management, officials announced Tuesday.
The $830 million deal between the states second largest hospital group and private equity firm Cerberus would result in the six-hospital chain shifting to for-profit status, but the system is expected to retain its Catholic identity.
The hearings will take place over the next several weeks, in communities where Caritas has hospitals: Norwood, Brighton, Fall River, Methuen, Dorchester and Brockton.
Attorney General Martha Coakley is also accepting written comments from individuals or groups.
Coakleys office said that the review of the merger will likely take several months, due to the complexity of the deal.
